Q: Why are union flight release days paid at 4.5 hours, but our minimum paid days are only 4?
A: UFR is a limited number of hours and the company was willing to consider this. There was no way they would agree to minimum paid days of more than 4 for all CCM. Furthermore, the 4 hour credit is based on flying duties while 4.5 is maintained for all CCMs for most non-flying activities (training etc). This comes down to a Minimum Duty Period Credit (MDPC), being different than compensation for non-flying activities. The Company maintained that because a MDPC was new for us, in terms of pay administration, that they were unwilling to consider anything more than 4. Essentially, the 4 hours applies to any flying or flying-related activities (including Reserve Credit), but for non-flying activities, 4.5 remains.
