Strike/Lockout Contingency Plan Update #4

Dear Members,

The decision threshold to take down the remainder of the operations has now come.  The Employer will start to park all of WO (Swoop) and WS (WestJet) fleet. 

The impending strike/lockout is now just under 7 hours away.  

This evening, the Employer continues to approach this as an IROP event. All applicable articles in your respective Collective Agreement remain in effect. Please review the email sent by the Employer to your Company email. The Employer has not informed the Union of their intention to use Sunwing as part of its IROP recovery.  

As of right now, the possibility of layoffs has not been indicated to the Union.  

If you have further questions, please contact your Inflight Leadership or your respective Base Vice President for any specific questions you may have.  Please keep in mind, the Employer has not provided any additional information to the Union that they have to you. 

Your Union continues to actively pursue specific information to ensure our Membership receives the support it deserves.  

We are committed to keeping you, our Membership, informed by providing you with updates as soon as they are made available. 

We know this situation is creating much anxiety, uncertainty with high stress levels. Please ensure to use your support group, keep mental health top of mind, and utilize your benefits and tools available to you during this challenging time. Please refer to your Company SharePoint or reach out to your Inflight Leader to access these resources.  

What we are experiencing is part of the bargaining process. Both sides will be exerting as much pressure on the other side as possible, creating an uncomfortable, uncertain and stressful atmosphere. Using pressure from the public and other coworkers/departments is a common tactic. For things to change and improve for any working group, these challenging times must be endured.
