Dear Members,
 

As we leave our winter operations and schedule behind us, we thought we’d take a moment to update you on noteworthy changes and additions to your Hotel & Transportation network for Summer 2024.

ASIA MARKETS 

As some of you have already experienced, Tokyo layovers are now mostly in the city of Narita. Multiple fatigue studies were conducted with unanimous results showing that the time change and long drive into the city would result in a reduction in rest and increase in general tiredness. Staying in Narita on a 24 hour layover is common in the industry and all parties felt that it was the overall best option. 

Seoul Incheon joins our network shortly and the site visit was conducted in March. We sited a variety of properties in several areas of the city and the hotel information is now available on your cabin crew device. 

AMERICAN MARKETS 

Several new layover options join our schedule this summer including new hotels in Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco and Houston. All markets were visited by your committee, including some with Corporate Security, and all have been approved for long stay downtown layovers when applicable. We hope you enjoy your new layovers in these markets as much as we enjoyed siting them. 

CANADIAN MARKETS 

This summer will see the re-introduction of several overnights out east, some in cities we haven’t seen in a while on the 737. Final preparations are happening for Montreal, Charlottetown, Moncton, Deer Lake and Windsor layovers to start up again, many for the busiest few months of summer.  Please continue to utilize Crew Connex or the Crew Accommodations category on your CCD for the most up to date information on these cities.

EUROPEAN MARKETS 

Iceland was sited in February, with layovers to begin in a couple weeks. Contract negotiations are wrapping up and information regarding this hotel will be provided by the company shortly.

The Paris Olympics are around the corner and as many of you know, we will be relocated to the airport during the entire event. This move will be from July 21 - August 12, so please keep this in mind for your summer bidding. Discussions regarding the implications of this continue with the company.

Additional capacity to Edinburgh this summer has resulted in the need for a second hotel in the city, as our current hotel was not able to accommodate our higher room needs. The second hotel will be for the peak summer months and, under most circumstances, will accommodate the YHZ 737 flight crew.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

We’ve seen a small increase in hotels saying rooms are not booked for crews when they arrive shortly before or after midnight. If this happens to you, please make sure the front desk agent is checking reservations for both the day of and the day before. Sometimes with delays or layovers that hover around the date change, there is human error into which date the rooms are actually booked under.

As always, we request you report any major concerns through the Crew Connex app, especially for tracking purposes. We get a frequent report and tally of all submissions, and we can always be reached for further discussion at hotels@cupe4070.ca.
